b. 2 April 1911, Madisonville, Louisiana, USA, d. 7 April 1983. Cagnolatti studied trumpet in his teens, and spent most of the 30s in a big band. In the 40s and 50s he played in various brass bands at parades and funerals in New Orleans. He also played in bands led by Alphonse Picou, Bill Matthews and Paul Barbarin. Cagnolatti continued to play in New Orleans, sometimes with Jim Robinson, through the 60s and 70s. A solid, if sometimes unimaginative player, Cagnolatti lent a measure of authority to ensembles of which he was a member.
