Not to be confused with the band that was formed by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy after the demise of Southern Death Cult (which would go on to become the mainstream rock band the Cult), Deathcult are a black metal band that formed in Norway around 2006. Members Herr Ekkel, Høst, and Meistermann released their first demo, Cruel Rehearsals, in 2006. The band then worked out a record deal and was able to release its first "official" full-length, Cult of the Dragon (Doedsmagik), in mid-2007. At the time of this first album's release, Deathcult made the announcement that their two follow-up albums were to be named Cult of the Goat (Sexmagik) and Cult of the Dog (Voldsmagik).
