Born on July 20, 1981 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia as Dayang Nurfaizah binti Awang Dowty, Dayang Nurfaizah was a pop singer whose career was as popular as it was consistent. Her first album, a self titled affair, was released in 1999, and was a huge hit. More popular and well-received albums followed -- nearly ten over the next decade -- before Nurfaizah made the rather surprising and controversial decision to participate on the television reality talent show One in a Million. Criticized by some for being a ringer on a show meant for neophytes, Nurfaizah fared well, eventually making the final four before being voted off the show. In 2007, after the appearance, she released the album Dayang. The multi-award winning artist also started a label, called DN & AD Entertainment. It was in place in time for her to release her fourth album -- Dayang Sayang Kamu -- on the label in 2004.
