St. Louis native David Harlow grew up playing classical piano and singing in his hometown. He picked up the acoustic guitar along the way, eventually writing his own songs and performing for audiences. He joined a songwriter's workshop in 1996, and began to hit the coffeehouse scene quite regularly. He eventually quite his job in 1999, getting an apartment in Nashville, TN and writing the Brief History of the Life of David Harlow while splitting his time between the two cities. He released the album in the summer of 2002 on Bloodred Records.
