The late Dave Allen was a country songwriter based out of Washington, D.C. area. Any recognition he received has been the result of the Nashville Bluegrass Band, a popular combo since the mid '80s which has championed Allen's songs, even going as far as to include both "I Got a Date" and "Almost" on the band's Sugarhill release entitled Unleashed. "Blue Train" is another of Allen's tunes to be covered by this group, no relation to the John Coltrane opus of the same name or the Japanese overnight combined train and boat service linking several of the country's northern islands. Allen sometimes wrote songs in collaboration with Harry Stinson. "I Got a Date" has also been recorded by the family band the Forester Sisters.
