The oddly named Chinx got his musical break during Zimbabwe's struggle for independence, when he served as a choir master for the guerrilla forces. After the fighting was over, Chinx continued to develop his inspirational chanting, backed by the Mazana Movement. The Comrade's lyrics mix good will and social criticism and remain very closely anchored in Zimbabwean concerns. With a second backing group, Ilanga, Comrade Chinx has started to make inroads on synthesizer pop and light-hearted lyrics.
