Comprising Clare Davis (fiddle), brother Fred Davis (guitar), Alison Dynes (vocals), Mat Davies (bass) and Edd Frost (drums), Clarion was formed at the turn of the 90s as an acoustic English roots group based in Oxford, Oxfordshire. Their intention was to build on traditional sources but add in the dynamism of rock/roots bands such as the Whisky Priests or Oyster Band. Appearances including one at Fairport Convention’s annual Cropredy event had won them many critical supporters by the advent of their debut album in 1995. The delay was caused by their insistence on ‘getting everything right’, a decision which reaped rewards as they continued to tour widely throughout the UK in support of the album.
