A twenty-five women ensemble, formed and directed by sound artist and composer, Kathy Kennedy, Choeur Maha performs an uplifting mix of Japanese, Cree, Arabic, Bulgarian, French and English influences. Performing mostly in large, public, spaces, the Montreal-based group sings over a soundtrack broadcast by public or private transmitter and picked up by portable radios. The ensemble's eclectic repertoire spans from "medieval music to Motown." A founder of Studio XX, a non-profit organization devoted to providing women with access to audio equipment, Kennedy teaches in the contemporary dance department of Concordia University.
