Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Allene Norton aka Cellars makes '80s-style electronic synth pop. A native of Seattle, Washington, Norton grew up listening to music, and by the time she was 12 had learned to play piano and guitar. After high school, she began writing her own songs and playing coffeehouses. She also studied audio engineering and remixing, skills that she eventually applied to her own synth-based recordings. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2013, Norton formed Cellars as an outlet for her love of vintage '70s and '80s pop, especially artists like Madonna, Kate Bush, Yaz, and Human League. In 2016 she released her debut full-length album, the Ariel Pink-produced Phases.
