This informal Californian band served as an alternate, if short-lived, outlet for Beach Boys vocalist Mike Love (b. 15 March 1941, Baldwin Hills, California, USA). Formed in 1978, Celebration also featured jazz saxophonist Charles Lloyd (b. 15 March 1938, Memphis, Tennessee, USA), as well as several of the singer's associates from the region's music fraternity. The title track from Almost Summer reached the US Top 40 in 1978, a success that inspired a second album, released on former Monkees guitarist Michael Nesmith's Pacific Arts label. However, Celebration was dropped as Love's commitment to the Beach Boys took precedence and Lloyd returned to his first love, jazz.
