Artist Biography by

Carlos Païta was an Argentine conductor. His early experience of seeing Wilhelm Furtwängler conducting inspired him to make that his career, and eventually led him to study with Artur Rodzinski. His first conducting post was the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, followed by a position with the SWR Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1966. He moved to Europe in 1968, though he maintained an international career, which included conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique in 1978, which won the Grand Prix du Disque. In 1979, he conducted the Houston Symphony Orchestra, and by 2003, made his home in Geneva, Switzerland. Most of his recordings were released on the Lodia label in the Carlos Païta Edition.
