Boris Malkovsky is a composer, pianist, and bayan (button accordion) player based in Israel. He released the impressive Time Petah-Tiqva album on John Zorn's Tzadik imprint in 2007. The piece, which mixes Jewish traditional themes and jazz improvisation with Gypsy and classical motifs, was originally commissioned by the Tel Aviv Chamber Music Ensemble for members of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra to perform at a wedding celebration. Malkovsky expanded the composition for the Tzadik release, which features his own bayan playing along with Ora Boazson on contrabass and the Israel Contemporary String Quartet (cellist Hilla Epstein, violinists Hadas Fabricant and Tali Goldberg, and viola player Amelia Hollander).
