Black Melody got together in 1992 after former members of Spina Bifida and Disembowel formed under the inspiration of just wanting to play metal that inspired them when they were kids. Based out of the Netherlands town of Tilburg, the quartet brought on their influence of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Motorhead after playing a handful of shows and self-releasing their debut EP Headliner in 1994. After their 1998 debut EP Retrospectacles and a number of lineup shuffles, Black Melody eventually settled with the lineup of Richard (guitar/vocals), Gerben (guitar), Norbert (bass/vocals), and Gerard (drums). Their second EP Suffer the Cure came out the following year.
