Zouk 5 Etoiles is definitely five-star zouk. Eric Brouta, one of Guadeloupe's superstars, has a keen sense of where the zouk bull's-eye is and he hits it again on this album. His combination of hard-driving zouk, as on "Pe Pa," and sensuous zouk love is a mixture hard to top. His zouk love tracks are filled with layers of percussion that bring out the swing and sway very prominently to the delight of those who like to dance glued hip-to-hip. As on his other albums, the accompanying musicians are some of the best from the Debs studio contingent. Henri Debs, a Lebanese entrepreneur who immigrated to Guadeloupe, is a sly producer and knows an exceptionally hot artist when he hears one. He has recorded Eric Brouta extensively and with great success. Although Zouk 5 Etoiles breaks no new ground on the zouk frontier, it is zouk of the '90s at its best. What Eric Brouta does, he does very well. Highly recommended.
