+/- avert the "indietronic" tag on their second album for Absolutely Kosher (and fourth overall). It is, by all measures, a rock record, maybe closer in spirit to the late work of James Baluyut's former band, the beloved Versus, than past +/- stuff. Brass sections, pedal steel, and acoustic guitar, rather than laptop, predominate. "Subdued" might be the album's statement of purpose; paradoxically, it is one of the loudest tracks here, powered by Chris Deaner's martial snare hits. The similarly Versus-like "You'll Catch Your Death" is another example of the group's ability to sculpt beauty out of noise.
