"Suavemente" was deservedly a hit but only for the sheer energy of its execution. Lyrically, compositionally, and ethnically it is no more or no less banal than its mainstream merengue competitors. Crespo's production team was able to craft many equally high-energy pieces on his debut and on Pintame, along with some fun nods to bachata, but you don't even have those here, at least not sustained through a single track, though the title track might have been an exception if the Spanglish hadn't come off so stiff. Crespo and his band are charismatic if you see them live, but this time the Wow didn't transfer to disc.
