Imagine a triangle formed by Sheryl Crow, Meredith Brooks, and early-'90's Edie Brickell. Ivy Markaity would stylistically dwell somewhere in the middle of it. She's quirky, a touch folky, and for adults. Markaity's lyrics are intelligent, and her sounds diverse. "Cruel Lullaby" is a touching, piano-driven track reminiscent of the early Jewel. "Taste My Pain" is an emotionally blistering, Dylan-esque song. "World's Not Big Enough to Lose You In" is a hushed bossa nova with heartfelt tristesse. But there isn't a bad song, and even if Markaity hasn't yet carved out her own distinctive identity, she does exhibit great imagination.
