This release features clarinetist Albert Nicholas on performances taken from Rudi Blesh's famed "This Is Jazz" radio series of 1947. Nicholas was not technically the leader on the 13 numbers, although he is the only horn player on "Me Pas Lemme Ca," "Albert's Blues" and "South Side Shake." The other selections also feature cornetist Wild Bill Davison and trombonist George Brunies with the rhythm sections including either Charles Queener, Dan Burley, Joe Sullivan, James P. Johnson or Joe Sullivan on piano, rhythm guitarist Danny Barker, bassist Pops Foster and either Baby Dodds or Freddy Moore on drums. The music is essentially comprised of Dixieland standards, and the playing is fine (Wild Bill is consistently exciting), but all of the performances will eventually be reissued in more complete form in Jazzology's "This Is Jazz" CD series.
