For this LP (plus one in 1966), trumpeter Buck Clayton sits in with British trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton's excellent sextet, and together, they perform high-quality small-group swing. The fresh repertoire (three underplayed standards, two blues, and five originals by either Clayton or Lyttelton), the excellent solos (including some from Tony Coe on tenor, and baritonist Joe Temperley), and their high spirits, overcome any minor technical deficiencies. Recommended to all straight-ahead jazz fans.
