Willie "The Lion" Smith passed away in 1973 but this live jam session shows that two years before his death, he still retained most of his power. Teamed up with Australian trumpeter Tony Newstead, clarinetist Tommy Gwaltney, bassist Van Perry, and drummer Skip Tomlinson, Smith runs through ten veteran warhorses and brings a great deal of joy to such songs as "Ain't She Sweet," "Louisiana," "Darktown Strutters' Ball" (which has one of Fat Cat McRee's two vocals) and "Love Is Just Around the Corner." This hard-to-find Fat Cat LP can easily be enjoyed by Dixieland and Willie "The Lion" Smith collectors.
