AllMusic Review by

The melodramatic flair and textural splendor that are the hallmarks of Debbie Wiseman's film work reach their zenith with 1997's Wilde -- the composer's finest score to date, its haunting sophistication perfectly captures the starcrossed life and career of Oscar Wilde. Wiseman's rich orchestrations eloquently communicate Wilde's external refinement as well as his inner turbulence -- her melodies and arrangements are as quintessentially English as tea and crumpets, and even the most dissonant moments capture the beauty that was Wilde's raison d'ĂȘtre.
