At age 75, cornetist Wild Bill Davison continued his nearly nonstop touring, performing and recording; 1981 would be Davison's last major year on record, leading five albums for as many different labels. Wild Bill's range had shrunk but his distinctive sound was still intact, as he shows on this spirited workout with trombonist Bill Allred, clarinetist Chuck Hedges, pianist Fred Hunt, bassist Jack Lesberg and drummer Barrett Deems. Davison, who stuck to his musical vision throughout his career, plays his usual repertoire (how many times in his career did he record "Mandy, Make Up Your Mind?") with enthusiasm, while the underrated clarinetist Hedges in particular fares quite well during the live recording.
