White Lightnin': The Solo Albums Review

by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Sanctuary Records subjected Bill Wyman's first four albums to deluxe expansions back in 2008, but in the seven years following, they drifted out of print. In 2015, Edsel rectified the situation by gathering the albums -- 1974's Monkey Grip, 1976's Stone Alone, the eponymous 1981 LP, and Stuff, which appeared only in Japan in 1992 -- in a mini-clamshell box, adding a bonus DVD containing seven promo videos and three BBC clips, along with an interview, to round out the package. For those fans who invested in the expanded CDs in 2008, this additional DVD is the most appealing element of White Lightnin', but for those who missed out on the titles, this is a nice way to get Wyman's best records all at once.
