This two-disc set released for the Canadian market features love themes and soft rock from a cross-section of genre heavyweights. Elton John's "Your Song" kicks off disc one with its breezy grace, and Robbie Williams does a pretty great John impersonation on his own "Angels." While there's some question as to the sequencing of the lush, Ben Orr-sung Cars' hit "Drive" between Barenaked Ladies and Brian McKnight, disc one of What the World Needs Now Is continues with light rock staples from Linda Rondstadt and Aaron Neville ("Don't Know Much"), Atlantic Starr ("Always"), and Bette Midler ("From a Distance"). The pacing might be odd, but it's nice having all of these tracks in one spot. The second disc is equally strong. From Sarah McLachlan's tasteful "I Will Remember You," through the soulful croon of Mick Hucknall on "Holding Back the Years," all the way to Natalie Cole's adult contemporary classic "Miss You Like Crazy"." Other standouts on the second disc include a pair of soft rock epics, "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner and Sheriff's 1989 hit "When I'm With You."
