The Effigies followed the brilliant "Bodybag" single a year later with this EP, which was also included in its entirety on the Remains Nonviewable summary. As the title holds, threads of capitalism and general societal corruption run through each of the four songs. (Also note the Nick Blinko/Rudimentary Peni-style cover work, which tellingly depicts puppetry and skeletons.) With all the wisdom of a man who's been in the trenches enough to know what goes on in the higher ranks, John Kezdy's embroiled pontification takes aim at City Hall ("We're da Machine"), demanding bosses ("Quota"), automation ("Techno's Gone"), and the double-edged sword of ambition ("No Progress"). Musically, it remains almost as blasting and bend-resistant as the prior releases, an almost trademarked form of controlled ferocity with rather unmatched musicianship.
