AllMusic Review by

Geraint Watkins first came to the world's notice as a keyboard player for Dave Edmunds in the '80s. He's a key element on Nick Lowe's DIG MY MOOD, and this album features the same lineup (including Lowe on bass) as that top-notch release. WATKINS BOLD AS LOVE is a delight from beginning to end, as Watkins proves himself a smooth and engaging singer. Furthermore, his songs run the gamut of genres, and are all tied together with an earthy honesty and commitment. There are slow piano blues numbers ("It's a Wonderful Life"), buoyant swing pieces ("My Happy Day"), heart-riveting pop selections ("Don't Stop"), visits to New Orleans ("Honey Honey"), and more. Watkins revels in the kind of diverse sonic variety that a band like NRBQ does. This stellar album contains not a single false note or half-hearted moment in its 13 great songs.
