Fans of Southern hip-hop will probably want to like 404 Soldierz. Their combination of bumping bass music and solid underground credentials should mean that someday they will be mentioned in the same breath with fellow Atlanta rappers as Outkast and Goodie Mob. Yet somehow Walk Like a Soldier misses the mark. The duo of Big Lee and C Dawg bring all the expected weapons: popping snares, buzzing synth lines, and vocals filled with raw energy. Unfortunately, that energy lacks focus and the lyrics suffer, as is the case on tracks like "Banging That Ass" and "He Scared." Ginuwine makes an appearance to try and slow things down, but his track "We Do" is as flaccid as most of the music on the album. There is probably a good reason why 404 Soldierz are popular in Atlanta's underground scene. Unfortunately, after listening to Walk Like a Soldier, you have no idea what those reason is.
