Voices of the Real World brings together a diverse collection of artists who represent some of the highlights of the first ten years of recordings on the Real World label. Perhaps because of the pop success of the label's founder, Peter Gabriel, Real World has succeeded more than any other record company at producing crossover hits for world musicians. This collection presents several artists who have made an impact across genre boundaries, like Gabriel himself, Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan, Papa Wemba, and Shiela Chandra. Also represented are a number of musicians who otherwise wouldn't have seen airplay outside of their own countries without the promotional muscle of the label. Overall, it is a fine collection that remains very listenable despite its musical variety.
