This selection by D.K. Jayaraman illustrates something that will be encountered everywhere in the Carnatic realm. The material draws heavily on the repertoire of Tyagaraja and Syama Sastry. Of the six compositions only one ("Sharade") is from another author's pen -- Papanasam Sivan. The paradox is that the trinity's status has cautioned and bred conformity causing many gifted composers' work to be banished to languish as minor works in the hierarchy of song.
