AllMusic Review by

Viva el Norte celebrates contemporary norteño music by gathering songs by the style's most popular artists, including Chuy Vega, Los Tigres del Norte, Los Rieleros del Norte and Grupo Exterminador. Most of the songs on the collection are in keeping with norteño's traditionally cheerful, festive sound -- particularly Los Huracanes del Norte's "La Escuadra (En Que Trabaja el Muchacho)" and Los Tigres del Norte's "El Mojado Acaudalado" -- although some tracks, such as "Uno, Dos y Tres" and "Te Quiero Mas," have slower, more pop-oriented rhythms and arrangements. Other highlights include Banda el Recodo's "Yo Se Que Te Acordaras," Grupo Exterminador's "La Tumba Vacia," and Los Originales de San Juan's "El Jardinero." Though it's not a particularly diverse collection -- it offers 14 tracks by eight artists -- it's still a fun and entertaining one.
