Vintage Collectibles, Vol. 6: 1958-1967 falls somewhere between the two extremes in the MCA Special Products' budget-line series. Usually, Vintage Collectibles is either devoted to familiar material or skillfully balances favorites with lesser-known tunes and forgotten singles. Vol. 6 walks the admittedly thin line that separates these two tactics, leaning a bit toward the former at times. Surely, the familiar tunes -- the American Breed's "Bend Me, Shape Me," Len Barry's "1-2-3," the Chantays' "Pipeline," Shirley Ellis' interminable "The Name Game," Buddy Holly's "Rave On," Roy Head's "Treat Her Right" -- take the forefront, but there are also a pair of absolutely terrific singles (Tommy Tucker's "Hi-Heel Sneakers" and the Impressions' "Amen") that usually aren't commonly heard on the radio or seen on oldies compilations. Add Bobby Moore's "Searching for My Love" to that mix and you have another winning entry from Vintage Collectibles.
