This is another of the great Vietnamese ethnomusicologist Trân Van Khê's CD collection on Vietnamese music produced by Ocora. As the title indicates, he offers traditional Vietnamese poetry. While singing with his distinctive enchanting Vietnamese voice, he accompanies himself on the dàn kim (moon-shaped lute) or the dàn tranh (table zither). He is joined by Trân Thi Thuy Ngoc, who also accompanies him on the dàn tranh as well as the song lang (a small clacker played with the foot). Vietnamese music is extremely diversified. Vietnam has more than 50 different ethnic people and hundreds of different styles, including within Vietnamese music itself, between the northern, the central, and the southern regions, for example. The songs he offers on this CD are classical in styles, taken from a variety of theater, traditional, and declamatory styles. A gift from a great Vietnamese musician. Vietnamese charm at its best.
