AllMusic Review by

Living Era's Unchained Melodies is a quality investigation of Les Baxter, the King of Exotica. These tracks are culled from the vaults of Capitol and RCA Victor and include selections from the groundbreaking collections Music Out of the Moon, Perfume Set to Music, and Le Sacre du Sauvage. The majority of these cuts were recorded between 1951 and 1955, unarguably an extremely productive period for Baxter, as evidenced on this disc by such hits as "Unchained Melody," "Quiet Village," "The Poor People of Paris," "April in Portugal," "Because of You," "The High and the Mighty," and "Wake the Town and Tell the People." As an extra bonus, satirist Stan Freberg's 1951 sendup of the Baxter choral method, "I've Got You Under My Skin," closes out the set.
