Is it minimalism when you have four guitars playing at once? Whatever the label -- Pritchard himself calls it ambient multiple acoustic guitars -- the effect is mesmerizing. Pritchard and his companions, including '70s disco diva Teri DeSario on vocals, showcase the guitar in a variety of settings. By turns wistful, sorrowful, enchanting, and always melodic, the music transcends such tired terms as "new age." And while Pritchard comes from a jazz background, neither is this music jazz. The new classical? Perhaps, but what it is truly is, is melodic, acoustic music that is restful and enthralling.
