BMG's Ultra Dance '80s is a decent, if scattered, compilation of popular singles that casts a rather wide net. Few have the wide-ranging taste to enjoy everything here, which ranges from pop-friendly R&B (Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen," the Pointer Sisters' "Jump," Evelyn "Champagne" King's "I'm in Love," Shannon's "Let the Music Play," Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love") to new wave (Haircut 100's "Love Plus One," Thompson Twins' "Lies"). The compilation might've been better off attempting to cover one particular sector of the era; instead, it comes off as a little messy and random, especially when put up against dozens of other similar compilations.
