AllMusic Review by

Since its first collection six years previously, the Pop Party brand has gone on to become one of the most successful in the increasingly crowded compilation market. Aimed at a much younger audience than the Now That's What I Call Music! series, Ultimate Pop Party features the usual dance-pop big hitters of the current charts (Britney Spears' "Womanizer," the Noisettes' "Don't Upset the Rhythm"), some more recent classics (Take That's "Shine," S Club 7's "Reach"), and several older tracks designed to please the parents who will undoubtedly hear it hundreds of times. (ABBA's "Mamma Mia," "Grease Megamix"). Of the recent chart hits, Rihanna's infectious Michael Jackson-sampling "Please Don't Stop the Music," Sam Sparro's effortlessly smooth "Black and Gold," and Lady GaGa's electro-pop stomper "Poker Face" are the highlights alongside number ones from P!nk, Girls Aloud, and Tinchy Stryder. Soulja Boy's dancehall-inspired "Crank That," the Pussycat Dolls' frenetic "When I Grow Up," and Bob Sinclar's old-skool tribute "Rock This Party" will inspire dance routines galore, as will the more gimmicky but entertaining novelty hits from DJ Casper and K.I.G. Only McFly's weak cover of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now," Akon's irritating helium-voiced "Lonely," and Girls Aloud and Sugababes' ill-advised "Walk This Way" duet spoil the party. But with rock from the Automatic, R&B from Ne-Yo, pure pop from Kylie Minogue, dance from Cascada, and a whole host of party favorites, Ultimate Pop Party should have something for everyone and is a welcome addition to the increasingly popular series.
