This well-sequenced three-disc set on the Record of Substance imprint from Universal offers a compelling showcase of songwriter Chris de Burgh's wildly eclectic career. From country to blues to syrupy '70s ballads to power rockers, de Burgh recorded it all, and stayed on the charts in the U.K. throughout the 1980s and into the '90s. There are a total of 42 cuts here. The first two discs plus half of the third offer an array of album tracks and singles -- including the hit cover of Burt Bacharach's "Love Is My Desire" (the theme from Arthur 2: On the Rocks). The remainder of disc three features seven extended live tracks, including versions of "The Lady in Red" and "Patricia the Stripper" (whose studio incarnations are also included).
