AllMusic Review by

With some selections from the 2000s thrown in for good measure -- added appeal for younger listeners, perhaps -- Ultimate Breakdance is, predominantly, a compilation of old-school rap and electro, along with a healthy amount of early house, late-'80s rap, and the unfairly maligned hip-house. There's a pretty wide spectrum of material here, and though not all of it ideal for breaking, it's hard to deny a set that includes classics like Hashim's "Al Naafiysh (The Soul)," Roxanne Shanté's "Have a Nice Day," Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam's "I Wonder If I Take You Home," the Jungle Brothers' "I'll House You," and A Tribe Called Quest's "Can I Kick It." Unfortunately, many of the tracks included are in single/radio-edit form, inferior versions of the original album, and 12" mixes.
