The Morlocks were a short-lived and lamented combo from the mid-1980s doing their level best to replicate being a combo from the mid-1960s. At this they succeeded admirably, as this grainy and midrangey live tape attests. If you didn' know this was a retro band plying their wares, you'd swear it was an impossibly rare reel-to-reel tape of some lost '60s garage combo, so well does the band work their voodoo. Everything's firmly rooted in the American teen combo imitating-the-Kinks- mold, and tracks like "I Need You," "I Got Nightmares," "Outside Looking In," "Leavin' Here," "Double Decker Bus" and "By My Side" truly deliver the goods. Not great sound, but a lot of style and panache served up in the Cars-Police era of rock history. You can go home again, some would say.
