Frank Foster and Frank Wess teamed up several times through the years. Both of the tenors came to prominence in the 1950s with Count Basie's Orchestra. This double LP mostly features a 1956 septet that, in addition to the two Franks (Wess doubles on flute), also has trombonists Henry Coker and Benny Powell, guitarist Kenny Burrell, bassist Eddie Jones and drummer Kenny Clarke. The remaining three selections are more of a showcase for Foster, featured in a sextet with trumpeter Donald Byrd and Coker. With the exception of "Serenata" and "Dancing on the Ceiling," all of the selections are group originals (mostly by Foster and Wess) with the emphasis on viable chord changes for cool-toned swinging. Enjoyable straight-ahead music which has partially been reissued on CD.
