AllMusic Review by

After a nine year period (1962-71) largely off of records, Turk Murphy's Jazz Band started making up for lost time; eight albums have been released covering the 1972-73 period. This set of performances is paticularly valuable, for most of the material had never been recorded by Murphy's group before. The sextet (featuring the leader on trombone and washboard, the driving cornetist Leon Oakley, clarinetist Phil Howe and pianist Pete Clute) is in fine form on such tunes as "Alligator Hop," "Buddy's Habits," "Swipesy Cakewalk" and "Riverside Blues."
