On 1998's Trust, John Boswell returns to his roots as a solo pianist. Pieces like "I'll Carry You Through" add touches of cello and synth, but the focus is on Boswell's emotive playing throughout. Trust begins with structured works like the optimistic "Take My Hand" and characteristically romantic "From the Heart." As the album progresses, however, Boswell's pieces become more open and improvised, from the contemplative "Heart Full of Rain" and "Leaf Dream" to the airy "Angel in the Ice." Trust reflects nature and emotions through John Boswell's increasingly rich and refined compositional skills.
