Trouble's Back in Town Review

by Cub Koda

Originally an LP proper, this 18-track collection is the best one-stop overview of the brothers' biggest hits as well as their guest appearances with Webb Pierce and Ernest Tubb. As down-home country as their TV show and live appearances were, these tracks, in contrast, head straight for Music City, U.S.A. more and more with the passage of time, with the Anita Kerr Singers becoming a second chorus on their biggie "Trouble's Back in Town," a honky tonk tune of no little import. The early sides like "I Wanna Wanna Wanna" and "I'm So in Love With You" capture Doyle and Teddy at their exuberant best; their voices harmonize empathetically like all brothers acts do. With great notes and excellent transfers to recommend it, until a larger retrospective shows up, this is your best buy.
