AllMusic Review by

Not to be confused with Simon Pyke's project of the same name, Outward Music's Nudge is a collaboration between Fontanelle's Brian Foote and Mat Morgan, as well as a rotating supporting cast of competent psychedelic-synth mechanics. Structurally, Trick Doubt, the band's first full-length, shares many similarities to an electronic Godspeed You Black Emperor! or an acid jazz heavy Autechre. Rustlings of artificial clicks suggest conventional IDM, but in "Idiolect," there's a live, real-world feel and not much of a rhythmic foundation, so everything has a sense of mild free-flotation, like art-house jams clashing with the aloofness of intelligent techno. The band often get lost in themselves, as one might expect, but they handle their own casual subgenre with more than the usual flair.
