These tracks were originally released on Motorcity Records in the United Kingdom (a label which is devoted to producing new recordings by former Motown singers), and later compiled to pay homage to Smokey Robinson.Wanda Young-Rogers of the Marvelettes is enjoyable on "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game," "Don't Mess With Bill," and "My Baby Must Be a Magician." While Young-Rogers was down on her luck when she cut these sessions, she delivers a commanding performance. Darrell Littlejohn leads the Monitors, but it's no wonder their renditions of "Tears of a Clown" and "Going to a Go Go" sound like the Miracles -- Littlejohn is Robinson's nephew. The Contours dish a tasteful "Tracks of My Tears" with a slightly different arrangement; Sammy Ward lights a warm fire on "You Really Got a Hold on Me"; Bobby Taylor obviously loves singing "Get Ready"; and Linda Griner updates her "Goodbye Cruel Love" with a spoken part. Mary Wells does four of her biggest hits satisfactorily, and Carolyn Crawford shines on two efforts. For an added treat, a bunch of ex-Motowners jam on "The Way You Do the Things You Do."
