Although her voice is occasionally a little too throaty, Yvette Freeman's A Tribute to Dinah Washington is a sincere, entertaining tribute to the great singer. None of the arrangements on these 12 songs are particularly imaginative, but the small combo handles these standards well, and Freeman turns in heartfelt performances that keep the album interesting. It's a fun record, even though it isn't the kind of album that will find its way onto your stereo all that often.
