AllMusic Review by

This album is a tribute for the seminal Brazilian rock band Os Mutantes by extremely successful Brazilian pop groups and performers. Disbanded in the '60s, the band was a precursor of the pop culture in Brazil, which mixes todays synthesizers and overdriven guitars with samba and thinks of it as an innovation. Although their songs even today have an unsurpassed freshness, it is hard to listen to groups or performers who don't have Os Mutantes's charisma performing their repertoire. There are exceptions, like Jorge Mautner, Gilberto Gil, Tom Zé (all contemporaries of Os Mutantes) and Arnaldo Antunes, but the rest of the album is divided between performers who attempt unsatisfactorily to recreate the group's atmosphere and performers who don't even try, bringing their own style to those strong songs, which can only appeal to their own fans.
