Transgression, Vol. 2 Review

by Jason Birchmeier

The Transgression series of mix albums feature DJ Gius spinning a number of progressive tracks, which tend to teeter more on the trance side of the style than the house side. S+M Records churned out these mix albums in the early 2000s, waiting only an average of six months before releasing the next volume in the series. Given the series title's allusion to trance and the brief span between releases, the volumes ultimately sound awfully similar to one another, actually featuring many of the same producers on each volume. As mentioned, the emphasis is on progressive dance music and, in particular, Euro-trance. Unfortunately, there isn't much novel about this album besides the Euro element -- and even that is more of a gimmick than a true attribute. Much like the first, this second volume derives much of its worth from a well-known Paul van Dyk production, in this case, "Tell Me Why."
