AllMusic Review by

Most general rock fans are still unaware that the mid-'60s saw a similar explosion of "beat"/punk/R&B/garage bands in Continental Europe and Australasia as the U.K. and the U.S. Some volumes of Pebbles are devoted to the Continental '60s punk scene, but these are the best general samplers, including material from Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, Canada, Spain, and the U.K. (though the British Invaders assembled here are extremely obscure). Some tracks are more sloppy than inspired, but the best cuts have a raving but melodic mania on par with anything from Britain and the U.S.; the ones by Sons of Fred, Peter & The Blizzards, and The Blue Stars are classics of sorts within the small community that collects this stuff. Volume One is substantially better than the sequel.
