AllMusic Review by

Delta's Tranquil Moods: Lilies of the Field features contemporary instrumentals by Jeff Johnson. The biblical allusions in the album's title and the titles of its songs aren't as much literally spiritual as they are an invitation to relax and meditate, and calm but cheerful pieces such as "Be Thou My Vision" and "Gethsemane" help the listener do just that. While some of the louder, more synth-based tracks like "No Shadow of Turning," "Ships of Tarshish," and "Henosis" aren't quite as successful as the album's quiet acoustic works, for the most part Tranquil Moods: Lilies of the Field offers a lovely, unobtrusive backdrop for relaxation, meditation, and reflection. "The Brook of Kidron" and "Selah" are some of the other highlights of this collection, which manages to express many moods and still sound focused yet soothing.
